Synopsis：

Father’s Wish vividly portrays a righteous and honest father who has to support his family despite life’s difficult circumstances. He has no choice but to take on the sufferings and ruthlessness of life, but he always tides over difficulties with hope and happiness, and educates his children to learn from life and how to live a splendid life in an ever-changing society.

The father, Chen Shunrong, lives with his wife and four children near a fishing port in Taixi. He owns about a hectare of land and a small bamboo raft. Other than farming, he has to go fishing to make ends meet as there won’t be much left after the family pays the rice paddy rent and water fees with the money earned from harvesting rice. Now he has even more burdens on his shoulder, as drought-induced crop losses make it difficult to pay his rent and children’s tuition fees. To make matters even worse, he is expecting his fifth child to be born. To provide for his family, he has no choice but to sell his blood for cash; no effort is too great as long as his children are able to receive an education. It is his dearest wish that his children won’t suffer the same fate as their father.

Tianbao, the eldest son, often goes fishing with his father. They don’t have a boat so all they could do is catch fish by the shore using fishing nets. Tianbao knows that his father’s greatest aspiration is to have a fishing boat. When his father is captured by the police, Tianbao witnesses how government officials abuse and oppress its people; it is then that Tianbao realizes that the world he lives in is dominated by power and money. To weave a better future for himself and for the Chen family, he decides to take a shortcut by joining a gang.

With different pressures from life and fates that await them, the Chen family’s five children embark on different paths, going through various turns in life. Despite the different lives they lead, how to fulfill their “father’s wish” still remains their common concern.

深入描繪一個正直樸實的父親，背負一家的生計，面對現實生活的無情與悲苦，雖然無奈，卻能用快樂及充滿希望的心情度過，並教導子女如何面對社會變遷與波折，在學習中走出各自精采的人生。

陳順榮與老婆和4名子女住在台西漁港，擁有一甲多的地和一艘小竹筏，每年收成的稻米大部分都繳交水租田租，因此他需要額外去捕魚，才能養活一家大小。旱災導致農作物欠收繳不出租金，小孩學費籌不出來，還有第5個小孩即將誕生，煩心的事陸續接踵而來，順榮逼不得已去賣血，來換取金錢，再怎麼辛苦也要讓孩子上學，他期盼孩子別和他有相同的命運。

大兒子天保經常跟著父親去捕魚，他們沒有船只能在海邊圈網捕魚，他知道爸爸最大的願望和最開心的事就是擁有一艘漁船，在父親被抓進警局時，眼睜睜看著爸爸受官僚欺壓，他了解在這個世上唯有權力與金錢，才能主宰一切，他選擇最快的捷徑加入黑道，他要為自己、為陳家開拓可見的未來。

在生活壓力及命運捉弄下，陳家5個小孩各自都有發展，也都有不同的際遇，但是他們都還是掛念著如何完成「阿爸的願望」。
